Learning from the Wizard: Programming Social Interaction through Teleoperated Demonstrations (Extended Abstract)

چکیده
This paper considers the question of whether robots can be effectively programmed for autonomous social interaction through learning from demonstrations recorded via Wizardof-Oz teleoperation. We present a novel LfW system for educational play between young children and a robot and results from a randomized experiment comparing a teleoperated robot and a robot with autonomous behavior derived by LfW. Across numerous metrics, the teleoperated robot and the autonomous robot programmed by LfW elicit similar behavior from their human interaction partners. Additionally, when children were asked whether the robot was humancontrolled or autonomous, approximately half in each condition thought it was human-controlled.

Learning Social Interaction from the Wizard: A Proposal
Learning from demonstration (LfD) is a widely-used technique for programming robot behavior. Despite its flexibility and applicability to a wide range of tasks, LfD is most typically used to learn non-social behaviors. To our knowledge, no prior work has learned robot behavior from demonstration for interaction that is primarily social in nature. In this paper, we conjecture that LfD can be use...
متن کاملConceptual Imitation Learning: An Application to Human-robot Interaction
In general, imitation is imprecisely used to address different levels of social learning from high level knowledge transfer to low level regeneration of motor commands. However, true imitation is based on abstraction and conceptualization. This paper presents a conceptual approach for imitation learning using feedback cues and interactive training to abstract spatio-temporal demonstrations base...
متن کاملPlanning 3D Task Demonstrations of a Teleoperated Space Robot Arm
We present an automated planning application for generating 3D tasks demonstrations involving a teleoperated robot arm on the International Space Station (ISS). A typical task demonstration involves moving the robot arm from one configuration to another. Our objective is to automatically plan the position of virtual cameras to film the arm in a manner that conveys the best awareness of the robo...
متن کاملKeyframe-based Learning from Demonstration - Method and Evaluation
We present a framework for learning skills from novel types of demonstrations that have been shown to be desirable from a human-robot interaction perspective. Our approach –Keyframe-based Learning from Demonstration (KLfD)– takes demonstrations that consist of keyframes; a sparse set of points in the state space that produces the intended skill when visited in sequence. The conventional type of...
متن کاملCommunication and knowledge sharing in human-robot interaction and learning from demonstration
Inexpensive personal robots will soon become available to a large portion of the population. Currently, most consumer robots are relatively simple single-purpose machines or toys. In order to be cost effective and thus widely accepted, robots will need to be able to accomplish a wide range of tasks in diverse conditions. Learning these tasks from demonstrations offers a convenient mechanism to ...
